Rex is available to visit your school, library, book store, or special event, for presentations to suit your group. Rex has experience working with kids of different age levels and has programs for children from grades Pre-K through 12.
The focus of the workshops, for grades 2 through 6, is on the importance of being an individual, liking yourself as that individual, and understanding and accepting others individuality. Through group participation, students learn the value of their differences. Participants learn how being different, doesn't necessarily mean being "wrong". These drawing exercises address topics of peer pressure and empathy. The length of one presentation is approximately 30 minutes. Exercises include, but are not limited to: "Exquisite corpse", "Compare/ contrast", and "What do you see?".
Junior High, or middle schools have a core focus on the same principals, but also begins to have a deeper explanation of basic artistic principles. An explanation of the creative process is paralleled with the changes that are beginning to happen to them. The length of one presentation is approximately 45 minutes.
High School presentations have a focus on how to bind art with story. This workshop includes character development, pallet, atmosphere, and pace. Participants work in a mock publishing scenario from bidding for a job, to creating a winning design that the customer likes. The length of one presentation is approximately 3 to 4 hours.
